Multiple domains are not helpful January 1, 2006

We got a phone call from customer saying that typing MILLIONSAVERS.com domain name now shows some Century 21 agent website. Our real estate brokerage name is MILLIONSAVER.com. It is also properly registered trademark. So the obvious reason was that Century 21 agents Michell and Paul Francis figured out that using similar name to our trademark name will bring them some more traffic. See more info here.
First, it is unethical and I don’t recommend anyone trying something like that. You will get soon served legal papers for trademark infringement.
But second, it is not even helpful. You might get few more visitors coming to your web, but once you start using multiple domain names Google can easily ban you completely or ban some of the domain names because of the duplicate content. Yes, Google doesn’t like you having multiple domain names with the same content. And the way how these smart agents set it up, they might get banned very soon. There are ways how to set up redirect correctly but at this case it wasn’t done like it. The website basically looks and behave like independent website running under the different domain name.
